Wild Lettuce is a plant in the Lactuca genus, ingested often for its mild psychotropic effects. It is related to common lettuce, and is often called Bitter lettuce, Laitue vireuse. A latex which is called lactucarium can be derived from the extract of the stem secretions of Lactuca virosa. Extracts can also be produced from L. virosa. These extracts have sedative properties.

1.Wild Lettuce extract is a valuable remedy for use in insomnia, restlessness and excitability and other manifestations of an over active nervous system.
2.As an anti-spasmodic wild lettuce can be used as part of a holistic treatment of whooping cough and dry irritated coughs in general.
3. Wild lettuce will relieve colic pains in the intestines and uterus and so may be used in dysmennhorea.
4. Wild lettuce will ease muscular pains related to rheumatism. It has been used as an anaphrodisiac.
