It can be used to treat eczema and itching, It behaves like a local anesthetic, imparting a soothing numbness like effect where applied. The extract contains lingams, alkaloids, fatty acids, coumarins and alkamides, among other ingredients. Its numbing and local anesthetic effects are reportedly owed to the alkamides.
