About Protocatechuic Acid
Protocatechuic acid is a phenolic acid naturally present in many vegetables and fruits, and is an effective active ingredient in many traditional Chinese medicines. Protocatechuic acid is a water-soluble phenolic acid component and is an active substance in many traditional Chinese medicines. It not only has anti-platelet aggregation, reduces myocardial oxygen consumption, improves myocardial oxygen tolerance, slows heart rate, inhibits bacteria, relieves pain and other pharmacological activities. It also has antioxidant, anti-tumor and neuroprotective effects.
Protocatechuic acid is a medicinal ingredient. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory are one of its main functions. It can significantly inhibit and eliminate Escherichia coli, Shigella and Bacillus subtilis as well as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus in the human body. It can prevent human cells from being infected by these germs, and can also improve the body’s anti-inflammatory ability, so that the inflammation in the body will gradually subside.
Protocatechuic acid can inhibit the metabolism of cancer cells, reduce the invasiveness of cancer cells, and has a pro-apoptotic effect on human breast, lung, liver, cervix, and prostate cancer cells in a certain concentration-dependent manner, reducing the risk of these cancer cells, which indicates that protocatechuic acid exerts its anticancer effect by promoting the apoptosis of cancer cells or delaying the invasion and metabolism of tumor cells, and is a potential anticancer agent.
Protocatechuic acid is beneficial to prevent or alleviate the related glycation of diabetic complications. In diabetic mice, protocatechuic acid significantly decreased blood glucose levels and increased insulin levels.
