Oxamniquine is an effective compound for the treatment of schistosomiasis.
Oxaniquine is an anti-schistosomiasis, anti-filariasis and anti-trypanosomiasis drug. Oxaniquine is used to treat schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma mansoni and is ineffective against other schistosomiasis species. The drug causes the parasites to transfer from the mesenteric vein to the liver, the males stay in the liver, and the females return to the mesentery and no longer lay eggs.
