About Chlorpropamide
Chlorpropamide is a white crystalline powder with no characteristic taste or smell. It exhibits polymorphism. Its acid dissociation constant pKa is 5.0 at 20 °C.
Chlorpropamide is a long-acting sulfonylurea derivative. Chlorpropamide is a long acting hyopglycemic agent. Chlorpropamide is used in the treatment of diabetes metilus type 2. Chlorpropamide acts to increase the secretion of insulin and is not effective in patients who do not have pancreatic beta cell function.
Chlorpropamide is suitable for the mild moderate II diabetes mellitus patient who are not satisfied with the effectiveness of diet control, and their insulin ß cells can still secrete some insulin, and without other serious complication. It can also used for central diabetes, also suitable for the mild moderate stable adult diabetes mellitus who haven’t lose all the insulin functions. It has special function on senile or vascular complications and adult viscerotonia insulin.
