About Catestatin
Catestatin is a 21 amino acid residue, cationic, hydrophobic peptide. Catestatin is a newly discovered active polypeptide, derived from chromogranin A, which can inhibit the release of catecholamines, inhibit essential hypertension and heart failure, and antagonize myocardial hypoxia or ischemia/reperfusion injury effect.
Catestatin is a noncompetitive nicotinic antagonist that inhibits catecholamine release through nAChRs.
Catestatin is a novel cardiovascular protective peptide produced by cleavage of chromoprotein A, is expressed in adrenal chromaffin cells, adrenergic neurons and myocardium, and exerts various cardiovascular protective effects through autocrine/paracrine.
Catestatin can negatively regulate the release of catecholamines, promote mast cell degranulation, regulate the function of the autonomic nervous system, and then relax blood vessels and antagonize the occurrence of hypertension. It promotes angiogenesis by promoting the release of basic fibroblast growth factor from endothelial cells and activating the MAPK signaling pathway.
Catestatin can improve immunity, and the ingredients containing catestatin can stimulate the proliferation of lymphocytes, help improve the body’s immunity, and prevent the body from being attacked by viruses. After the Catestatin is decomposed, a morphine-like active peptide will be produced. This active peptide can help relieve and reduce stress, can calm and help sleep, and can improve sleep quality. In addition, Catestatin can also promote calcium absorption.
