It is a biennial plant to flower halophilic typical of salt marshes of 20-60 cm high with clustered flowers in capitula. The Flower Centre (tubes) are yellow, the flowers of tongues, peripheral heads (ligulate, improperly called petals) are white to lilac. The inflorescence a corymbose flower heads.
It blooms in summer and early fall on cliffs and in salt marshes. The leaves are green midrib markedly, and the radical oval, the cauline lanceolate and narrow. Highly branched, the stems are smooth and fleshy. It is edible raw or cooked especially juvenile period (sheet size of 5-20 cm). In this state it would look “almost” a pig’s ear. It can be cooked easily and blends with all meats and fish.
