About Inositol
Inositol is widely distributed in animals and plants and is a growth factor for animals and microorganisms. It was first isolated from the heart muscle and liver. Cyclohexanehexol has a plurality of cis and trans isomers in nature, and the naturally occurring isomer is cis-1,2,3,5-trans-4,6-cyclohexahexaol.
Inositol is a substance widely found in foods and is similar in structure to glucose. In animal cells, it occurs mainly in the form of phospholipids, sometimes called inositol phospholipids. In cereals, hexaphosphate (phytic acid) is often combined with phosphoric acid to form phytic acid, which can combine with calcium, iron and zinc to form insoluble compounds, interfering with the human body’s absorption of these compounds.
