About Forskolin
Forskolin is a diterpene derivative derived from the activation of adenylate cyclase by the plant larynx. It is a hydrophobic activator that stimulates adenylate cyclase activity in mammalian cells. The anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects of forskolin are due to inhibition of macrophage activation, thereby reducing the levels of thromboxane B2 and superoxide. This property makes forskolin an effective drug for the treatment of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma. In vitro experiments showed that the activation of adenylate cyclase by Forskolin resulted in a significant increase in cyclic AMP levels in a variety of eukaryotic cells. The low concentration of forskolin can increase the intracellular cyclic AMP in a small amount by enhancing the activation of adenylate cyclase in intact cells.
